Fillers Q&A

Skin Specialty Dermatology

What are cosmetic fillers?

Cosmetic fillers are products that are used to help restore the face and other features to a more youthful appearance. Unlike the fillers of a few years ago that relied solely on synthetics to fill in wrinkles and lines and plump up lips and cheeks, today's products use substances like hyaluronic acid that occurs naturally in the body to provide immediate fullness while also helping the skin retain more moisture naturally so skin looks firmer and more resilient. Plus, today's filler help promote the production of collagen and elastin, two important components of skin that decrease with age.

How are fillers used?

Fillers can be used to fill in fine and deep lines and wrinkles, to treat scarring from acne or trauma, and to restore plumpness and volume to the cheeks and other areas where natural volume has been lost to the aging process. Some fillers can also be used to add plumpness to the lips or the backs of the hands. Fillers are often used in combination with Botox® to achieve a “mini-facelift” effect without the need for costly surgery and prolonged downtimes.

What kinds of fillers does Skin Specialty Dermatology offer?

Our office offers the most advanced fillers designed to treat many areas of the face, neck and jowls, including:

  • Juvederm

  • Restylane

  • Perlane

  • Sculptra

Different fillers are used in different areas and for different effects, depending on variations in their formulations. We work with each patient to determine their precise needs so we can select the best filler products for each treatment area.

How long will my results last?

That depends on the type of filler used and the application. Some fillers last six months while others can last a year and longer. You can learn about the longevity of different products during your consultation.
