New JUVÉDERM® XC is the smooth gel filler that your doctor uses to instantly smooth away wrinkles around your mouth and nose. With just one treatment, you'll get smooth and natural-looking results that last up to a year.
JUVÉDERM® XC is manufactured using HYLACROSS™ technology, creating a smooth-consistency gel. It is infused with lidocaine to improve comfort during treatment. With JUVÉDERM® XC you get the smooth results you expect, with the improved comfort you want.
Everyone will notice, but no one will know.
Where Does It Work? Everyone's skin ages differently and JUVÉDERM® XC may be used to rejuvenate multiple problem areas.* From smile lines to vertical lip lines, you can smooth away unwanted wrinkles and restore natural contours. Learn more about the individual treatment areas by rolling over the list below.
How does JUVÉDERM® XC Work? Young, healthy-looking skin contains an abundance of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). But as you age, sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of HA in your skin. The lack of HA causes your skin to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds - like those parentheses lines around your nose and mouth.
Using a dermal filler like JUVÉDERM® XC is a safe and effective way to replace the HA your skin has lost, bringing back its volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds.
Read on for more details about how JUVÉDERM® XC makes those parentheses disappear:
Understanding Where Wrinkles Form
Your skin consists of two layers known as the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis, or outer layer of the skin, acts as the skin's primary defense against the environment. The dermis, or innermost layer of the skin, is composed primarily of connective tissue and provides the skin with a support network. Most facial wrinkles and deeper nasolabial folds occur within the dermal layer of the skin.
Our Skin's Natural Moisturizer
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring molecule. Much like a sponge, its primary function is to bind and absorb water, which creates volume in the face. In this way, Hyaluronic acid can be thought of as the body's internal moisturizer. But, as we age, HA diminishes, which contributes to the presence of lines and folds. JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel works to correct this by restoring hyaluronic acid in your skin, helping to diminish wrinkles and nasolabial folds.
JUVÉDERM® XC dermal filler is a nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment for nasolabial folds and other facial wrinkles. Using a fine needle, your healthcare professional eases JUVÉDERM® XC under the skin to fill the soft tissue of the dermis. This adds volume and diminishes the appearance of wrinkles and nasolabial folds instantly.
While there are a variety of hyaluronic acid fillers, JUVÉDERM® XC is uniquely formulated. A next generation HA filler, JUVÉDERM® XC uses a manufacturing process called HYLACROSS™ technology. HYLACROSS™ gives JUVÉDERM® XC its special smooth-gel structure that holds up over time. That's why JUVÉDERM® XC is the first smooth-consistency HA gel and the only HA filler that's FDA approved* to last up to one year with only one treatment.
We're glad you asked! Four easy answers.
JUVÉDERM® XC is the ONLY hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA approved* to last up to one year with one treatment (did we just say a year?).† That's right, up to a year.
Not all HA dermal fillers are created equal. Only JUVÉDERM® is so smooth. Other hyaluronic acid fillers currently on the market are made of granular consistency gels, but our unique manufacturing process (HYLACROSS™) creates a smooth-consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel—so everyone will notice (but no one will know)!
Did we mention it's more comfortable than previous JUVÉDERM® formulations?
JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel is now formulated with lidocaine, a common anesthetic used to improve the comfort of treatment.
JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven its safety and effectiveness in persons of color. Studies with JUVÉDERM® showed no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients of color.
One size doesn't fit all when it comes to wrinkle treatment. A customized treatment plan is important for achieving the best results. That's why JUVÉDERM® XC is available in two formulations—JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC for versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds, and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC, a more robust formulation for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and facial wrinkles. This allows your healthcare professional to tailor treatment to meet your unique needs.
There are plenty of dermal wrinkle fillers on the market today, but we think you'll agree JUVÉDERM® XC is special. (After all, there's a reason JUVÉDERM® is the #1 selling dermal filler in the U.S.).
For a smooth, comfortable experienceΩ combined with long-lasting results, don't wait - ask your doctor about JUVÉDERM® XC treatment today.
With any cosmetic treatment, safety is the first concern. As always, it's important to consult with your doctor before deciding on a wrinkle treatment. Because JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is a non-surgical, in-office treatment, most patients experience minimal recovery and downtime.
JUVÉDERM® and JUVÉDERM® XC Side Effects
JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel is generally well tolerated. Most side effects are mild to moderate in nature and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injection site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are generally biocompatible, which means allergy skin testing is not required prior to treatment.
If you're considering treatment with JUVÉDERM® injectable gel, your healthcare professional should ask about your medical history to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for treatment. JUVÉDERM® injectable gel for facial wrinkles and folds should not be used in patients who have:
Your healthcare professional will tell you what to expect following treatment with JUVÉDERM® injectable gel. You should ask your healthcare professional when makeup may be applied after your treatment.
You should avoid the following for at least 24 hours after treatment:
Exposure to any of the above may cause temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection sites. If there is swelling, you may need to place an ice pack over the swollen area. Be sure to report any redness and/or visible swelling that lasts for more than a few days or any other symptoms that cause you concern to your healthcare professional and/or contact Allergan Product Support at 1-877-345-5372.
In addition, you and your healthcare professional should discuss the following important treatment considerations in order to help avoid unsatisfactory results and complications when using JUVÉDERM® injectable gel:
Your healthcare professional should also warn you that the safety and effectiveness of JUVÉDERM® injectable gel for the treatment of areas other than facial lines and facial folds (such as lips) have not been established in controlled clinical studies.
Persons of Color
JUVÉDERM® is the first FDA approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler with demonstrated safety and effectiveness in persons of color.1
Other treatments for dermal soft tissue augmentation include bovine-based collagen and other hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. Aside from these treatments, additional options for the correction of facial folds and wrinkles do exist, including facial creams, chemical peels, and laser skin surface treatments, and may be discussed with your healthcare professional.
What to Expect
Because JUVÉDERM® XC is a simple, nonsurgical wrinkle treatment*, there is minimal recovery or downtime (and the results are instant!). So you can make an appointment to stop by your healthcare professional's office for treatment on the way home from work or the gym, or even while the kids are at soccer practice—and get right back to your daily routine. Here's what to expect when you visit your healthcare professional's office for treatment.
(Please note that although this experience is typical, the routine at your healthcare professional's office may be different.)
Before you Go
If possible, avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), for at least a week prior to receiving the treatment for wrinkles in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Ask your healthcare professional what he or she recommends.
When you Arrive
If this is your first visit, your healthcare professional will ask about your medical history, including any allergies you may have or medications you may take, and will tell you more about treatment with JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel
Determining Your Needs
If your physician determines that JUVÉDERM® XC is right for you, he or she will then examine the soft tissue of your face to assess the depth of wrinkles and folds to determine your treatment for wrinkles. JUVÉDERM® XC is indicated for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, (such as nasolabial folds). JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel is available in two formulations—JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC for versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds in the skin, and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC, a robust formulation for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles in the skin. This allows your healthcare professional to better tailor treatment to your unique skin volume needs. They may even take pre-treatment photographs so you can see the difference after receiving the treatment!
Anesthetic may not be needed prior to treatment since JUVÉDERM® XC is specially formulated with lidocaine (a type of anesthetic) to improve comfort during treatment. Your healthcare professional will then ease the JUVÉDERM® XC under your skin (where wrinkles and folds occur) to replace lost skin volume. Following the injection, your healthcare professional may gently massage the treated areas. The procedure is quick and easy and the results are instant! The injection itself usually takes only about 15 minutes.
You should avoid the following for at least 24 hours after treatment:
You may experience pain, tenderness, temporary redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, and bumps at the injection sites. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less1. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period. Be sure to report any redness and/or visible swelling that last for more than a few days (or any other symptoms that cause you concern) after receiving treatment to your healthcare professional and/or contact Allergan Product Support at 1-877-345-5372. Your healthcare professional will tell you when makeup may be applied after your wrinkle treatment.
Seeing Results !
You should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients need one injectable dermal filler treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing and improve skin volume. Just one treatment with JUVÉDERM® XC can smooth away your wrinkles for up to 1 year! However, results from injectable dermal fillers may vary and correction is temporary. Supplemental "touch up" treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal correction of your wrinkles
