HELP US SAVE JENNIFER'S LIFE

We need help in reaching as many people as possible to raise awareness about how easy it can be to save a life and ask them to be tested. The Be The Match Registry is in great need of registered donors, especially those of African and Hispanic descent. What many people don't realize is that today's medical technology allows testing of potential donors as well as actual transplants with little disruption to the life of the donor(s).

Testing to be a donor is absolutely painless.

Testing is as simple as a swab of the inside of the cheek, just a few minutes.

The actual donor process is as simple as giving blood.

The donor gives blood from an arm; a machine separates the blood-forming cells and returns the blood to the donor through the other arm.

PLEASE HELP
There are two ways to register. You can attend a bone marrow donor drive. There are several being held nationwide for Jennifer. A list is provided at http://www.savejenaustin.com/events.php . There you will also find a link to the registry or you may also register online at http://join.marrow.org/JJA1068. Please note the “promo code is JJA1068”. You will need to enter the promo code after you get to the site. Once registered, you will receive an at home testing kit free of charge. Again, I implore you to please register. Donors must be between the ages of 18 to 60. PLEASE HELP. Please click here for more information-HELP US SAVE JENNIFER

At our offices, you will receive the best and most current and up-to-date dermatologic and cosmetic expertise under the direction of Fran E. Cook-Bolden, M.D., Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology. At the Skin Specialty Group, Dr. Cook-Bolden and Dr. Kim Nichols specialize in the practice of dermatology and dermatologic surgery, cosmetic and laser surgery. Additionally, the Acne Treatment Center, the Pigmentation Treatment Center, the Skin Cancer Detection and Treatment Center and the Ethnic Skin Specialty Group offer specialized and immediate care focused in those areas. The Research Division of the Skin Specialty Group works closely with the health and beauty industry in the development of medications, devices and skin and hair care products which are focused on the current needs and concerns of the patient. We also work very closely with a large network of talented physicians, health care providers and resources in various fields and disciplines in the medical and beauty industry locally, throughout the US and internationally.

Our providers practice the team approach. Although you will have your primary doctor, you can rest assured and feel comfortable that in a follow-up or emergency situation if your primary doctor is not available, you will be in the hands of a provider who is equally as knowledgeable and will know who you are! We have thoroughly enjoyed being an integral part of your health care, with a focus on the skin, hair, and nails, and look forward to continuing this care.

In our continuing efforts to better accommodate our patients, we have again chosen a new, more spacious location! Our entire team expresses our sincerest appreciation for your patience during our office relocation. The new location is only a few blocks away on East 58th Street, between Lexington and Third Avenues and even more accessible by all forms of transportation. We are pleased to welcome our new patients and look forward to a rewarding partnership of care.

Dr. Fran E. Cook-Bolden and Associates are committed to excellence by providing the highest quality of dermatologic care. We encourage active participation in your care and welcome any questions and comments. Your questions can be answered by the doctors or other knowledgeable staff.

Fran Cook-Bolden, M.D., & Jeanine Downie, M.D., with Barbara Nevins Taylor, Beautiful Skin of Color: A Comprehensive Guide to Asian, Olive, and Dark Skin

Even though people of color spend an estimated $5.1 billion a year on beauty products and services, few books cover how to care for darker skin and hair. Both practicing dermatologists who specialize in skin care for people of color, Downie and Cook-Bolden seek to fill this gap in literature. Here, with the help of Emmy Award-winning reporter Taylor, they address the cosmetic concerns of men and women of African, Latino, Asian, Native American, Mediterranean, and Indian descent, expounding on the special composition and needs of darker skin.

Using an A-to-Z format, the authors cover a wide range of skin conditions and treatments, ranging from acne and vitiligo to chemical peels and liposuction. Provided throughout are tips, hints, and product suggestions. The only thing missing is an appendix of suggested products and the conditions they benefit. Nonetheless, this is a valuable resource that provides much-needed information for people of color and is highly recommended for all consumer health collections and public libraries.

Also available in The Dermatology and Laser offices of Fran E. Cook-Bolden, M.D., and Associates, and all major bookstores. Books can be ordered now at Barnesandnoble.com and Amazon.com
